Specific Wall sections may be adjusted for conditions while preserving the trip’s Wild Wall → scenic trek → restored Wall progression.
Leave Beijing for Gubeikou, the starting point of the classic wild-to-restored crossing.
Walk roughly 10 km toward Jinshanling, passing watchtowers and historic defenses.
Set up camp, watch sunset and stargaze from the Wall.
Wake on the Wall for morning light.
Continue across Jinshanling toward the more weathered Second Valley of West Simatai.
Transfer to the camping-center hostel for dinner and rest; a second camping night may be requested.
Visit a section such as Mutianyu for an easier walk and classic scenery.
Cable car or toboggan may be available locally.
Enjoy a local meal and private return transfer.

Prepare for consecutive active days and simple camping. A small hiking daypack, reliable shoes, layered clothing and personal essentials will make the experience easier.

The original 3AM route begins with about 10 km from Gubeikou toward Jinshanling and a night in a watchtower. The contrast between original and restored sections is visible throughout the crossing.
Day 2 explores West Simatai’s Second Valley, a rougher and less visited continuation. Mutianyu’s maintained pathways and optional cable car provide a more relaxed final day.
